The agreement, in plain words
These are the terms between you and BeYu. They are written to be read, not skimmed past — if a sentence here surprises you, write to us before you agree to it. Using BeYu means you accept these terms and the privacy policy.
Who can join
BeYu is for people 18 and over. That is not a checkbox: the gate is enforced in the database, and an account that has not passed it cannot post, RSVP or host. If you are under 18, BeYu is not for you yet.
The licence for the app itself
The BeYu app is licensed to you, not sold to you, and the licence is Apple’s standard one. We have not written our own: what governs your use of the app itself is the Licensed Application End User License Agreement that Apple publishes for every app on the App Store, and you can read it in full at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Where that agreement and these terms both have something to say, these terms govern everything except the licence to use the app itself, which is Apple’s.
We are saying this here because the app says it to you. When you set up your account, the screen that asks your date of birth tells you that continuing accepts the terms, the privacy policy and the end user licence agreement — and BeYu records all three, by name and with a version, against your account that day. Two of those three have been on this website since it existed. This section is the third one, named, so that what you agreed to is something you can go and read.
Membership and billing
Membership is billed through Stripe at the price shown in the app, and renews until you cancel. Cancelling is honoured to the end of the period you paid for, and there are three ways to do it. In the app: open Membership and choose “Manage membership”, which opens Stripe’s own billing portal in your browser — cancelling is what we send you there for. Whatever else that portal offers you, switching plans or updating a card among it, is Stripe’s to present and not something we will promise on Stripe’s behalf.
Deleting your account also cancels billing — before any of your data rows are deleted, and if the cancellation cannot be confirmed the deletion stops there. Your photographs are removed one step earlier than that, so a deletion that stops at the billing step has already taken them; the privacy policy sets out the whole order. And writing to support@beyu.app always works: we will cancel it for you without deleting anything.
What you post
What you post is yours. By posting it you give BeYu permission to show it inside the product, to the people the product’s own rules already show it to — the members of an event page, the people in a thread. We claim no other use of it: nothing you post is used for ads, sold, or fed into ranking anyone else’s feed. When content is removed — by you, by the night’s host, or by us — it stays removed.
How members treat each other
BeYu is rooms full of real people, and the rules are the ones a good room has. Not allowed, anywhere on BeYu: harassment or bullying, hate speech, violence or threats, nudity or sexual content, spam or scams, or anything illegal. Every post, photo, comment, profile and event carries a report control; a person reads every report. You can block any member, and a block works in both directions — they stop existing for you, and you for them.
We enforce these rules with the controls this product actually has, and we would rather name them than sound bigger. Content that breaks the rules is removed — by you, by the night’s host, or by us — and removal is not a debate we host twice: removed content stays removed, and the person who posted it cannot put it back. Hosting is a permission we grant, and one we withdraw. Removing a person from BeYu altogether is something we do by hand rather than with a button — there is no suspension switch in this product and we are not going to describe one — and where somebody has to go, they go.
Photos of you
If someone posts a photo of you that you want gone, report it as “It’s a photo of me.” That request is not judged like a rule-breaking report — taking the photo down is the ordinary outcome. New York law gives you this right over your own likeness; BeYu treats exercising it as normal, not as a complaint.
Hosts and nights
Hosting on BeYu is invite-only. A host runs their own night: the venue, the plan, the door, and what happens in the room are the host’s, and by hosting you agree that they are. BeYu is the way people found the night — it is not the organizer of member events, and it is not a party to what a host and their guests arrange.
Outside events — the ones with a ticket link — belong to their sellers. Ticketmaster or whoever holds the door sells you the ticket under their own terms; BeYu sends you there and is not part of that sale. A ticket link may carry a referral tag someday; it will never carry your identity.
The honest limits
BeYu is provided as it is. We work to keep it truthful and up, and we do not promise it will never be wrong or down. Real nights carry real-world risk that no app can carry for you: you go at your own judgement, and BeYu is not liable for what other members, hosts, venues or ticket sellers do. To the extent the law allows it, our total liability to you is capped at what you paid BeYu in the twelve months before the claim.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the State of New York, and disputes belong to the courts of New York.
When these terms change
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and a change that matters will be said in the app, not hidden in a diff. Continuing to use BeYu after a change means you accept it; if you don’t, deleting your account is always available — billing before your rows, and the privacy policy says exactly what goes and what honestly stays.
